Information about the conference

In April 2017, the 7th Conference focused on “Managing the psychological, social and family complexities of spinal cord injuries”. The meeting was exceptionally poignant, coming shortly after the untimely passing of our founding Chair, Professor Paul Kennedy, and the conference’s first return to the UK since the inaugural meeting in 2005. Hosted by the National Spinal Injury Centre, Department of Clinical Psychology at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, sixty-nine delegates were welcome to St Anne's College in Oxford. The meeting included five conference tributes to Professor Kennedy alongside the full conference programme, with an evening tribute from Dr Jeri Morris with delegates from Austria, Germany, India, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA joining UK colleagues for the conference.

Tribute to Professor Kennedy

Dr Jeri Morris paid tribute to Professor Paul Kennedy, founder of ESPA, at an evening reception before the conference dinner. Jeri spoke about Paul's substantial clinical, research and educational legacy, reaching across the world. We were joined by Paul's family and Linda Hall, our founding Secretary's, family for this poignant and special event.
